Los Angeles Kings Goaltender Jack Campbell Out 4-6 Weeks with Torn Meniscus

The Los Angeles Kings announced that goaltender Jack Campbell is sidelined for four-six weeks with a torn meniscus.

Jack Campbell Injured

Campbell was injured in Saturday’s game vs the Calgary Flames. There was no sign of the injury during the game as Campbell stayed in net for the entire game.

So far this season, Campbell is 5-7-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .923 SV% in 13 games. He has also recorded one shutout this season. Campbell beat out Budaj for the back-up role during training camp and has seen time in 13 of the Kings 16 games.

Over his four-year NHL career, Campbell has played for the Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings. During those four years, Campbell has appeared in 20 games and has a record of 7-8-2 with a 2.54 GAA and .920 SV%.  He was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars 11th overall in the 2010 NHL draft.

What This Means for the Future

The Los Angels Kings lose another goalie with Jonathan Quick already out with a knee injury as well. Campbell has been strong in last four games and had been the Kings starters since Quick went down. In the meantime expect Peter Budaj to get a bulk of the starts for the Kings until Quick or Campbell returns from injuries.

Cal Petersen has been recalled from the AHL to back up Budaj. With Petersen being called up the Kings have only two goalies in their system that are signed to contracts in Cole Kehler (ECHL) and Matt Villata (Juniors). The Kings are likely to go out and sign a goalie to a PTO to fill a starter role in the AHL. Some notable names for the Kings to target are Kari Lehtonen, Steve Mason, and Ondrej Pavelec. Currently, the Kings have 44 players signed to contracts and can still add six more contracts to their books.
