Darnell Nurse Re-Signs with the Oilers

Nurse has spent his entire four-year career with the Edmonton Oilers. He has put up 14 goals and 33 assists for 47 career points in 197 career games. Nurse has added two assists in 13 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, all coming in 2017. He was originally drafted in the first round, seventh overall in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.

Nurse is coming off his best season. He scored six goals and 20 assists for 26 points in 82 games last year. He also added 67 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 50.9 percent Corsi with an even relative Corsi. He is finishing the final year of his three-year (four due to ELC slide) $5.325 entry-level contract ($1,713,333 AAV) that he signed in July 2013.

What This Means for the Future

Nurse is coming off his first year where he played a full 82 games with the Oilers. Nurse had a career-high in hits (153) and blocks (153). He spent this year on the top pairing with Adam Larsson and averaged 20:19 of ice-time per game. He also was tied for third on the team for shots with 194. At only 23 years old and playing on the top pairing Nurse will look to become a solid fixture on the Oilers blue line to come. That top line has proven to be a physical one for the Oiler as Larsson and Nurse are second and third in hits behind Milan Lucic.
