Over his 15-year NHL career, Seidenberg has played for the Philadephia Flyers, then then-Phoenix Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins, and New York Islanders. He has scored 44 goals along with 207 assists for 251 career points in 859 career NHL games. Seidenberg also has three goals and 18 assists for 21 points in 69 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He was part of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. His best season was during the 2010-11 season when he scored seven goals and 25 assists for 32 points in 81 games with Boston. Seidenberg was originally drafted in the in the sixth round, 172nd overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Last season he scored five assists in 28 games for the Islanders. He also added 17 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 42.6 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -7.5. Seidenberg is coming off a one-year, $1.25 million dollar deal that he signed last April.

What This Means for the Future

After playing only 28 games last year for the Islanders the 37-year-old defencemen will have to earn himself a contract for next season. He spent a majority of last year as a healthy scratch. With an Islanders team that will be looking to re-build expect Seidenberg’s biggest job to be to mentor the younger players. Analytically, Seidenberg was amongst the worst defensemen in the league last season. He must show that he still has some gas in the tank if he is going to earn a contract on Long Island.
