Steven Santini Re-Signs With Devils
Santini has spent his entire three-year NHL career with the Devils. He has scored four career goals and 13 career assists for 17 career points in 75 career games. He was originally drafted in the second round, 42nd overall in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Devils.
Santini is coming off his best season. He scored two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 36 games this season. He also added 21 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 38.4 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -13 percent. Santini is coming off his three-year, entry-level contract worth $2.775 million per season with an AAV of $925,000.
What This Means for Santini’s Future
Santini is still in the process of developing down in the AHL before he can become a top-six defenseman for the Devils in the future. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds Santini wasn’t afraid to throw his body around registering 113 hits in 36 while playing with the Devils this year. In 26 games this year in the AHL he recorded three goals and three assists in 27 games with the Binghamton Devils. In the coming years expect Santini to become more of physical, shot-blocking defencemen for the Devils as he hasn’t put up much offensive production at either level. Expect Santini to become one of the many bright young defencemen that the Devils have. The Devils hope that Santini can find his groove soon and be able to stay at the NHL level next season.
With the Devils return to the playoffs this season, the rebuild is almost complete. New Jersey hopes that with young players like Santini, they can continue to add youth in their line-up and take the next step.
