The Ottawa Senators have re-signed free agent right wing Mark Stone to a one-year contract worth $7.35 million. The two sides agreed on a deal to avoid arbitration. Stone will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Ottawa Senators Re-Sign Forward Mark Stone
Over his six-year NHL career, Mark Stone has played solely for the Ottawa Senators. He has put up 95 goals and 154 assists for 249 career points in 307 career games. Stone has also added five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 27 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He was originally drafted in the sixth round, 178th overall of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators.
Last season, he scored 20 goals and 48 assists for 62 points in just 58 games played. He also added 10 minutes in penalties. Mark Stone can be effective on the power play and also added three game-winning goals this season. His possession numbers were 52.0 percent Corsi For and a relative Corsi of +5.2.
What this Means
Stone is an important young forward for the Senators, and one of the key members of the team. Over the past several years, he has been amongst the team’s leading scorers and leading possession players. He is the rare winger who can drive possession and make his linemates better. With the Senators, struggling last season, there have already been changes in Ottawa, and there will likely be more to come. Now 26-years-old, Stone is set to hit free agency next summer. There will be questions all season if the Senators will trade Stone before the trade deadline or they could risk losing him on July 1st.
