Quinn Hughes Returns to Michigan

Hughes spent his freshman season playing at the University of Michigan after spending two years playing for the United States National Team Development Program. Hughes was part of the team that won the gold medal at the 2017 IIHF Under-18 World Championship. He was drafted seventh overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.

Last year at the University of Michigan he scored five goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 37 games. He also added 29 minutes in penalties. Hughes helped Michigan reach the Frozen Four, where they lost to Notre Dame in a hard-fought semi-final game. He also had three assists for Team USA in seven games during the World Junior Championships, taking home a bronze medal. He also added two assists in 10 games at the Men’s World Championships.

Hughes is the oldest Hughes brother. Jack Hughes is a potential first overall pick in next years draft. LWOH’s Ben Kerr released this scouting report on Hughes which praises his skating and offensive abilities. Kerr also says that Hughes has the skills necessary to quarterback the power play. He compares his game to Nashville Predators defencemen Ryan Ellis. It will be interesting to see when Hughes joins the Canucks and the impact he has on the team.
