Tristan Jarry has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins on a two-year deal worth $1.35 million or $675,000 per season AAV. He spent the first year of his NHL career as Matt Murray‘s backup in Pittsburgh. Sometimes though, it rotated as he would get sent down to Wilkes-Barre to play in the AHL while Casey DeSmith would be the Penguins backup goaltender.
The Penguins have agreed to terms with goaltender Tristan Jarry (@tjarry35) on a two-year contract.
Jarry’s contract is a two-way deal in 2018.19 and a one-way deal in 2019.20. The average annual value at the NHL level is $675,000.

Pittsburgh Penguins Re-Sign Goaltender Tristan Jarry
Jarry has appeared in 27 games for the Penguins, 26 of them coming from this past season. He started 23 games this season and went 14-6-2 overall with a 2.77 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. Most of his starts came on back-to-backs as the Penguins led the league with the most back-to-backs during the season with the Ottawa Senators with 19.
During the season, Jarry flashed his ability to make some outstanding saves and show some great athleticism. Here’s one from a game against Colorado:
He got over from his left side very quickly and he was able to stop what would have been a sure goal. Here’s a save from the 2016-2017 season from his first ever NHL game:
Tanner Glass didn’t get enough on it but Jarry was able to reach back and get the puck with his stick and freeze play.

Kucherov got a lot on it but Jarry was able to track the puck extremely well and rob Kucherov.
Jarry can be a reliable backup for the team and he’ll definitely be good for 25-30 games during the season if their starting goaltender ever needed a rest. The back-to-backs will probably be must-starts for him, but if the starting goaltender is ever feeling fatigued or even if he gets hurt, Jarry can step in his place for a bit and the team won’t miss a beat.
