Defenseman Brett Kulak Re-Signs With Calgary Flames

Brett Kulak Career Stats

Kulak has spent his entire four-year NHL career with the Calgary Flames. He has scored two goals along with 9 assists for 11 points throughout his 101 career games. He was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames.

Before the Flames, Kulak spent time in the WHL with the Vancouver Giants. In 216 WHL games, Kulak recorded 35 goals and 93 assists. He was a part of the CHL Top Prospects Game in 2011-12.

In his first full season with the Flames last season, Kulak scored two goals and added eight assists. He also added 27 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 52.2 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -2 percent. Kulak is coming off a one year deal with the Flames worth $650,000.

What This Means For The Future

Kulak had spent a majority of his career in the AHL before last season. In three seasons with Stockton/Adirondack, he scored 9 goals along with 31 assists in 107 games. Kulak also spent time in the ECHL with the Colorado Eagles. He recorded nine goals and 21 assists in 39 games.

The left-handed shooting defencemen will be fighting for a spot on the third pairing with Rasmus Andersson next year. If Kulak loses the spot, expect him to be the seventh defencemen next year for the Flames.

With Kulak signing Garnet Hathaway and Noah Hanifin are the two remaining restricted free agents for the Calgary Flames. The Flames acquired Hanafin in a blockbuster deal with the Carolina Hurricanes at the Draft.
