Brandon Tanev Re-Signs With The Winnipeg Jets

Brandon Tanev

The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed forward Brandon Tanev to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million. The Jets avoid another arbitration case, having already faced that with Jacob Trouba.

Brandon Tanev Stays With the Winnipeg Jets

Tanev has spent his entire three-year career with the Winnipeg Jets. He has scored 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 career points in 115 NHL games.

Last season, Tanev scored eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 61 games. He also added 18 minutes in penalties. Tanev has added four goals and two assists for six points in 17 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. Tanev is coming off a one year $700,000 contract that he signed in July 2017. He originally joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Providence College.

What This Mean For Tanev’s Future

Tanev was limited to 61 games last year due to injuries. At 6-foot-0 and 183 pounds, Tanev is known to be a tough, hard-hitting forward. He recorded 181 hits last year which led the Jets team. Tanev also recorded three of his eight goals shorthanded last year which was another category that he led the Jets.

Moving forward the Jets should be excited about Tanev moving forward if he stays healthy. At only 26-years-old, Tanev could be a solid third or fourth line contributor. If Tanev wants to become a scorer, he will have to start getting more pucks on net. In his three years, Tanev has only recorded 137 shots in 115 games. If Tanev can continue to put the puck on net, he could have a strong year.
