Former NHL goaltender Ray Emery has reportedly passed away at the age of 35. According to Andrew Collins, his body was identified as the victim in an early morning drowning at the Hamilton Harbour.
He was said to have gone for a swim with several friends and never re-surfaced. Emery was seen playing in a charity game last night with Nashville Predators center Zac Rinaldo.

Over his 11-year playing career, he played for the Ottawa Senators, Philadephia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, and Chicago Blackhawks. During his career, he went 145-86-28 with a career 2.70 GAA and.906 SV percentage in 287 games. He also racked up 16 career shutouts. Emery won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013.
Emery’s best year was during the 2013-14 season when he went 17-1 with a 1.94 GAA and .922 GAA. He won the William M. Jennings Trophy that year as well. In 39 Stanley Cup Playoff games, Emery went 21-17 with a 2.64 GAA and .902 SV% He was originally drafted in the fourth round, 99th overall in the 2001 NHL Draft by the Senators. Emery last played in the NHL during the 2014-15 season.
During his career, Emery was known to be a goaltender who loved to fight. He was used mostly in a backup role throughout his career. He fought three times in his career, Andy Chiodo in 2007, Martin Biron in 2009, and Braden Holtby in 2013. During the 2015-2016 season, Emery’s career moved overseas when he went to play for the Mannheim Eagles of the DEL. He ended only playing in seven games for the Eagles going 2-5-0 with a 2.86 GAA and .900 SV%.
