Just hours after he was traded to the San Jose Sharks, forward Mike Hoffman is on the move again. The Sharks have flipped Hoffman and a 2018 seventh-round draft pick to the Florida Panthers. The Sharks receive Florida’s 2019 second round pick, 2018 fourth round pick and 2018 5th round pick.

Mike Hoffman Traded Twice in One Day, Heads to the Florida Panthers
“Mike is a skilled, consistent and hard-working player who has proven himself to be a talented goal scorer in the NHL,” said Florida general manager Dale Tallon in a press release. “His speed, experience and offensive abilities will bolster our top-six group.”
Hoffman is an outstanding goal scorer and is going to be a massive help for his new team. Last season, he put up 22 goals and 34 assists for 56 points in 82 games played. He also has put up 32 penalty minutes. His possession numbers are 49.4 percent Corsi, and +2.9 relative Corsi. Hoffman did all this on a bad Senators team. The three prior years though, he scored over 20 goals each time. His best season came in 2016-17 when he put up 26 goals and 61 points.
Hoffman also had a great playoff run with the Senators in 2017 when he had six goals and 11 points in 19 playoff games. He was one of their best performers during their run to the Eastern Conference Final. In 321 career games, Hoffman has 107 goals and 123 assists for 215 career points. He has added seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 25 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Contract wise, Hoffman is signed for two more years at just over $5 million per season. He also has a modified no-trade clause in that contract. Getting Hoffman adds the offence that could make Florida a serious Stanley Cup contender going forward. With a new team and new linemates, Hoffman will look to try to continue his scoring ways, and help lead his new club on a long Stanley Cup Playoff run next season. With this move, they announce that it is their intention to win now.
What This Means For San Jose
The net result for the Sharks is that they have added a number of draft picks, while dumping the contract of Mikkel Boedker and saving $4 million in cap space in each of the next two seasons. Doug Wilson has taken advantage of the Ottawa Senators desire to dump Hoffman over his well-publicized issues. This has to be seen as a win for San Jose and a loss for the Senators.
