RED ALERT! MASSIVE NEWS ON THIS TUESDAY AFTERNOON! The New York Islanders relieved both general manager Garth Snow and head coach Doug Weight of their duties on Tuesday, Islanders president of hockey operations Lou Lamoriello announced.

New York Islanders Relive GM Garth Snow and Head Coach Doug Wilson of Their Duties
The team has announced that Lamoriello will be the new GM
Lamoriello looks to begin the process of finding a new head coach as soon as possible.
“The New York Islanders would like to thank both Garth and Doug for their dedication to the franchise,” Lamoriello said. “Both started their tenures with the franchise as players and grew as tremendous leaders to the positions they held.”
Snow and Weight will remain with the organization.
Their pasts with the Islanders
Snow was named general manager of the Islanders in 2006, taking over from Neil Smith. He oversaw four coaching changes and hired Weight to take over for Jack Capuano last season.
The Islanders went 24-12-4 once Weight took over as the team’s head coach last year, but failed to reach the postseason. The team went 35-37-10 in Weight’s second season with the team.
Lamoriello spent the past three seasons as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but was moved to an advisor in April. The Leafs then named Kyle Dubas as the team’s general manager.
The Islanders are entering a crucial off-season as star centre John Tavares approaches free agency on July 1.
