The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent forward Evander Kane to a 7-year contract worth roughly $49 million or an AAV of 7 million per season. This contract carries him through the 2025-26 season.

Evander Kane signs with Sharks
Over his 9-year NHL career, Kane has played for the Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets. He has put up 186 goals and 168 assists for 354 career points in 574 career games. Kane has also added four goals and one assist for five points in 10 career playoff games. He was originally drafted in the first round, fourth overall by the Atlanta Thrashers. Kane is coming off a six-year contract that paid him $31.5 Million ($5.25 Million per year).
Last season he had 29 goals and 25 assists for 54 points. He also added 82 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.5 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of +5. He also played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in his career. After the Sharks were eliminated, it was reported that Kane played with a separated shoulder and an MCL injury. Kane was traded to San Jose at the Deadline for a 2019 conditional first-round pick, Daniel O’Regan, and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2020.
Kanes best year was in 2011-12 when he scored 30 goals and 27 assists for 57 points.
What This Means for the Future
Kane, 26 is a veteran winger. He has been a proven scorer his whole career and will bring is scoring ability to his new club. Kane will also be able to focus on hockey after all of the bad media press he was getting in Buffalo over the last few years. Kane has the ability to be a 30 goal scorer again. He brings speed and power on the wing.
