New York Rangers Henrik Lundqvist Returns To The Ice

New York Rangers Henrik Lundqvist posted a picture of himself back on the ice on his Instagram page earlier today. This is the first time he has skated since receiving platelet-rich treatment on his knee. He was sidelined for three weeks.

Lundqvist said that the injury bothered him throughout the entire year. He also missed time earlier this year with a muscle strain in his hip.

This season Lundqvist went 26-26-7 with a 2.98 GAA and .915 SV percentage. He also added two shutouts. This was a career-worst season for Lundqvist.

Lundqvist has spent his entire 13-year career with the New York Rangers. He is 431-275-83 with a career 2.37 GAA and .919 SV percentage. During that time he has recorded 63 career shutouts. Lunqvist was originally drafted in the seventh round, 205th overall in the 2000 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers.

Lundqvist is a two-time all-star (2012 and 2013) and won the Vezina during the 2011-2012 season. During his Vezina winning year, he went 39-18-5 with a 1.97 GAA and .930 SV percentage. He tallied eight shutouts that year.

What This Means for the Rangers

With the Rangers out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year Lundqvist was invited to play for team Sweeden during the 2018 IIHF World Championships but declined because of the injury. He said that the injury he suffered last year during World Championships is the same problem that forced him to seek treatment this year.

Lundqvist has been the number one man between the pipes for the Rangers over the last several years. His numbers have been on the decline for the past three seasons. Though this was only the second time that the Rangers have missed the playoffs during his tenure his window to win a Cup is closing fast. This season was Lundqvist’s worst year so far in his career. He will look to get back to form and bounce back for the Rangers next season.
