The Montreal Canadiens announced that forward Andrew Shaw is going through the concussion protocol. A timeline for his return has not yet been determined. If he does have a concussion it would be his second this year.

Andrew Shaw Injured
Shaw was injured after a head-to-head hit with Dallas Stars defencemen Greg Pateryn during Tuesday’s game. He didn’t return to the game after the hit.
So far this season, Shaw has 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 51 games. He also added 53 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.2% Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.8%.
Over his seven-year NHL career, Shaw has played for the Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks. He has put up 70 goals and 67 assists for 137 career points. He was originally drafted in the fifth round, 139th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks.
Filling In
If Shaw does end up having a concussion, the Habs will probably rule him out for the year. With the Habs out of the playoff race and Shaw’s concussion history, there should be no rush to bring him back for the final 12 games of the year. The Habs called up Michael McCarron to fill the void left by Shaw.

McCarron will look to bring a physical nature and net-front presence to the Habs. So far this year in Laval he has scored seven goals and 17 assists for 24 points in 52 games. He also added 109 minutes in penalties.
The Habs will also look to give fellow Laval graduate Nikita Scherbak some more playing time in Shaw’s absence. In his 16 games with the Canadiens, Scherbak has looked promising, scoring three goals and two assists.
The Habs are currently using these last few weeks of the season to take a look at some prospects for next year. Along with Scherbak and McCarron, Noah Juulsen, and Brett Lernout are also looking to impress the Habs brass down the stretch.
