Shea Weber Sidelined For Six Months
A String Of Unfortunate Luck
Montreal has already been struggling mightily since making the playoffs just last year. They currently hold a pitiful 25-32-12 record one season after winning the Atlantic Division. Currently standing at fifth to last in the league, the Habs are hot contenders in the draft lottery.
It’s no secret their season has been over long before the Weber injury. All year, Carey Price has been inconsistent and injured often. Captain Max Pacioretty has been subjected to many trade deadline talks and was also ruled out for several weeks with an injury. Jonathan Drouin has been underwhelming following the blockbuster deal that sent star 19-year-old defenseman, Mikhail Sergachev, to a stacked Tampa Bay Lightning roster. With the latest news on Weber, it should come as no shock that something else could go wrong.
What Next For Weber?
The 32-year-old hasn’t played since December 16. On February 16th, it was determined his season would be over entirely. Weber amassed six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 26 games this year. It’s believed he blocked a shot with his foot in the season opener. The four-time all-star tried playing through the pain for a while but eventually was removed from the lineup indefinitely.
With the news of his recovery time breaking, this should provide hope to Canadiens fans. Barring any delays, Weber is slotted to recover just in time for training camp next year. That’s not to say he’ll be 100%. It’ll likely be some extra time to transition back to being the best defenseman on the team again. Nevertheless, the tough-as-nails blueliner should come back swinging when the 2018-19 season rolls around.
