Another Milestone For Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin (600 Career Goals)

Alex Ovechkin

When critics said the Washington Capitals captain, Alex Ovechkin‘s career was winding down, he answered with adding even more achievements to his already impressive list. Tonight’s goal against the Winnipeg Jets marks his 600th NHL career goal for the Capitals. It was his second goal of the game.

Another Milestone For Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin

And with his 600 career goal, and with no intentions of stopping it has the potential to put him next to legends such as Joe Sakic and Bobby Hull. Although not likely to make the dizzying heights of Hall of Famers like Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky. Like them, he is the ultimate hockey super-star of his era.

This milestone also comes shortly after celebrating his 40th goal this season, which will make it the ninth season of his career to achieve and surpass that number.

Although not surpassing his 2007-08 career high, the 32-year-old is still producing numbers that some can only dream of. With 42 goals and 32 assists totalling 74 points, this season, making him once again top in the league for goals. And first on the Capitals roster for goals and points since his first rookie season in 2005.

Whats Next For The All-Star Captain

When the Russian hit the ice, it’s obvious he gets the respect he deserves. Often he uses this to his advantage and draws out the defence to create space for others.  With all of Ovechkin’s achievements, however, he has yet to win the Stanley Cup with the Capitals. They know how to win games, being top of the Metropolitan Division for again this season. But they always present the same problem during the playoffs, the pressure gets to them and they have never made it past the second round. This can partly be due to the fact that Ovi has felt individual pressure to carry the Caps in the past. This season they have a team full of top players to back him up, hopefully, this will be his year.
