The Winnipeg Jets have announced that Centre Mark Scheifele is day to day with an upper-body injury.
Mark Scheifele Injured
Scheifele left Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers and didn’t return.
So far this season, he scored 21 goals and 30 assists for 51 points. He also added 16 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 50.5 % Corsi and a relative Corsi of -0.5%.
Over his 7 year NHL career, Scheifele has played for the Winnipeg Jets. He has put up 111 goals and 169 goals for 278 career points in 356 career games. He was originally drafted in the 1st round,7th of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets.
What This Means for the Future
The good news for the Jets is that this injury isn’t related to his earlier injury. Also, there is no structural damage. Scheifele is currently fourth in goals and third in points for the Jets this year. He is also averaging the most time on ice amongst the forwards. There is a possibility he can be back before their road trip ends. Expect Bryan Little to take over at center on the first line while Scheifele is out. While this is some good news the Jets will certainly miss the minutes that Scheifle plays and the leadership he provides on and off of the ice.
In other related Jets news goaltender Steve Mason was injured in practice and Micheal Hutchinson has been called up to the team on an emergency basis and will backup Connor Hellebuyck tonight when they face the New Jersey Devils. The Jets would like to have Mason healthy for the upcoming playoff push and beyond.
During his 10-year NHL Career Mason has played for the Winnipeg Jets, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Philadelphia Flyers. Mason is 4-6-1 this year with a 3.18 GAA, and .906 SV%. In his career, he is 204-183-64 with a 2.69 GAA, and 9.11% in 475 career games.
