The Boston Bruins announced that forward Patrice Bergeron is sidelined for a minimum of two weeks with a fractured foot.

Patrice Bergeron Injured
Patrice Bergeron left Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2nd period after blocking a shot. The Bruins would go on to lose the game 4-3.
So far this season he scored 27 goals and 27 assists for 54 points in 55 games. He also added 26 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 57.1 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of +5.4. Bergeron is also one of the best faceoff men in the league, with a 56.9 winning percentage.
Over his 14-year NHL career Bergeron has played exclusively for the Boston Bruins. He has put up 286 goals and 439 assists for 725 points in 954 career games. He was originally drafted in the 2nd round, 45th overall of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. Bergeron also won Olympic gold medals in 2010 and 2014 playing for Team Canada.
What This Means for the Future
Losing Bergeron will definitely hurt the Bruins as he is their top centre and has been their best player so far this season. He drives their first line and without him, you have to wonder if they will continue to be such a dominant team in terms of shot metrics. He also is top on the teams in face-offs. The multi-time Selke Trophy winner does it all for the Bruins, playing big minutes on the power play, on the penalty kill, and matching up against the other team’s top lines.
Riley Nash is expected to take Bergeron’s place between Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak at even strength, while David Backes will play on the power play. One should also expect to see a bump in ice time for David Krejci, who is expected to play with Jake Debrusk and Rick Nash. Newly acquired centre Tommy Wingels could be in line for third line ice time.
