The Boston Bruins have agreed to trade forward Frank Vatrano to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a third-round draft pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Bruins Trade Vatrano To Panthers

The Bruins completed a trade Thursday with the Panthers. The Panthers acquire centre Frank Vatrano in exchange for a third-round pick in 2018.

Frank Vatrano

In Vatrano the Panthers get a young, gritty, depth centre who shows some promise to be a bottom six player in the NHL. Frank Vatrano is a 23-year-old centre, who tallied two goals and zero assists in 25 games played this season. On top of that, he has added 22 penalty minutes. He ranks fifth on Bruins forwards with a CorsiFor% (CF%) with a 56.28. Anything above 50% is good in this category, so in terms of shot attempts, Vatrano has played very well. He ranks third on Bruins forwards in Relative CF% with a +3.23. Over his three year NHL career, he has 20 goals, 11 assists, for 31 points in 108 games played. All of this comes with the Boston Bruins. Frank Vatrano was an undrafted player that Boston signed to an entry-level contract out of College.

What This Means For The Future

Boston is excepted to be buying this deadline. They have already picked up Nick Holden from the New York Rangers. With the moving out of a depth centre, it is possible the Bruins will be in the market for another depth forward they feel is an upgrade. As for the Panthers, they add a young depth centre. Vatrano is 23-years-old and is making $792,500 this season. At the end of this season, he is a restricted free agent. He should be affordable for the Panthers to re-sign in the off-season.
