Gabriel Dumont And Taylor Chorney Claimed Off Of Waivers

Gabriel Dumont

It is a busy day on the waiver wire as both Gabriel Dumont and Taylor Chorney are claimed off of waivers. Dumont was placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators and claimed by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Chorny was placed on waivers by the Washington Capitals and claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Both claims were reported by Pierre LeBrun today.

Finding New Homes, Dumont and Taylor Chorney Claimed Off Waivers

These moves come just before the February 26th trade deadline. That day promises to be busy. Both of these players are depth pieces for their respective teams.

Dumont played 23 games with the Senators, tallying one goal and one assist for two points. He also played in seven games for the Lightning this year. In 30 total games this season between the two clubs, he has one goal and one assist.

Dumont is under contract until next season. Additionally, he makes just $650,000 this season and next. Although he has been sent back to Syracuse in the AHL for the time being. He may be a cheap depth option for Tampa in the future, as they will most likely be tight against the cap.

Taylor Chorney played 24 games with the Washington Capitals this season. His tally for that time, one goal, three assists for four points. This was his third season with the Capitals. It is believed he was claimed by Columbus as they have had some injuries on the blueline. Chorney provides some depth. He makes $800,000 and is an unrestricted free agent (UFA) at the end of this season. As a result, he is a low price option for Columbus to add depth.

However, look for both of these players to be depth additions on their new teams.  They will most likely not have a huge impact. Nonetheless, they are free pickups and much cheaper than some that may go this trade deadline.
