OTPP: Carey Price Returns, Matt Duchene Struggles, and Kris Russell Confounds

Last Word on Sports is proud to present their hockey podcast, On the Power Play with Ben and Colton. Join Ben Kerr and Colton Praill each week as they take a look around the Hockey World focusing on the big issues of the NHL and elsewhere.

OTPP: Meet Our New Co-Host

Our former co-host Dave Gove has gone back to school. While he no longer has the time to podcast every week, he will be back as a guest. After several weeks of hiatus, as Ben searched far and wide for a new co-host though, we have finally found someone worthy of the OTPP shoes. Welcome Colton Praill to the madhouse.

Carey Price Returns

Carey Price has put together two strong games. Can the Montreal Canadiens breathe easier and start to climb up the standings? Can he mask the team’s holes? Is their any NHL player more important to their team?

Matt Duchene Struggles

In eight games since being traded to the Ottawa Senators, Matt Duchene has just one goal, no assists and is a -10. The team is also struggling. What is happening with Duchene? What is happening with the Senators? How does Erik Karlsson look after his ankle surgery?

Kris Russell Confounds

The Edmonton Oilers were supposed to be contenders. However, they have struggled out of the gate.  Colton and Ben break down the reasons.  They look at the blue line, the play of Cam Talbot, the off-season moves of Peter Chiarelli and more. They also get into the team’s cap crunch, and what the Kris Russell and Milan Lucic contracts mean going forward. Is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins destined to be traded? What will be the return?

Injuries and New Age Thinking

Our hosts finish up by talking about goalie injuries. The discussion ends up leading to a discussion of modern training, plyometrics, acrobatics, yoga, and GPS-based monitoring systems. Is this the cutting edge of hockey? How can teams take advantage?

All this and more as we go On the Powerplay.
