The Anaheim Ducks locked up another piece of their excellent young defence core on Wednesday, signing Josh Manson to a four-year contract extension. The extension begins for the 2018-19 season. The deal is worth a total of $16.4 million, and carries an AAV or cap hit of $4.1 million per season. Ducks beat reporter Eric Stephens was first with the news on Twitter.

Anaheim Ducks Sign Josh Manson to a Four-Year Contract Extension
This is a big raise for the young defender. Manson is currently in the final year of a two-year deal that pays $1.65 million per season. He established himself as one of the best defensive defencemen in hockey over the last two seasons. Manson shows elite shot suppression statistics, and is an analytics darling.
Manson, 25, played 82 games for the Ducks last season. He scored five goals and added 12 assists for 17 points. He also added three assists in 17 playoff games as the Ducks reached the Western Conference Final. In his four-year NHL career, Manson has played in 181 games, scoring ten goals and 25 assists for 35 career points.
Manson is the son of former NHL defenceman Dave Manson. He was drafted by the Ducks in the sixth round, 160th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft. Manson played his college hockey at Northeastern University. In 2013-14 he was also named the NCAA Hockey East, Defensive Defenceman of the Year.
With fellow Ducks blue liners Hampus Lindholm as well as Sami Vatanen injured to start the NHL season; Anaheim will count on Manson more than ever in the early going of the new NHL campaign.
