The Detroit Red Wings have signed 32-year-old forward David Booth to a one-year deal. Per CapFriendly, the deal is for $700,000 during the 2017-18 season. Booth was playing in the preseason with the Wings on a professional tryout contract.

This will be the first time that Booth has played in the NHL since the 2014-15 season. He last played with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played in 59 games with the Leafs that season, scoring seven goals and adding six assists.
Before that he spent three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and he also played with the Florida Panthers from 2006-07 to the beginning of 2011-12. The Panthers originally drafted Booth in the second round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft with the 53rd overall pick.

Booth spent the last two seasons playing in the KHL. He signed originally with Vladivostok Admiral. He played in 23 games with them, scoring six goals and adding 10 assists to his tally. He played with Omsk Avangard last season, appearing in 19 games. He scored four goals and added four assists.
Booth is looked at as a good depth forward addition to the Red Wings bottom six, especially for the price. Earlier in his career he had spurts of showing promise, but has never been able to capitalize on it.
During his 502-game NHL career he has 231 points, with 140 of them coming from three seasons. He had two separate 40-point seasons, first in 2007-08 and again in 2010-11. He also broke the 60-point plateau during the 2008-09 season. All of these came with the Florida Panthers.
Of his 231 career points, 167 came during his time with the Panthers organization. He has also only played a full 82-game season one time during his career, in 2010-11. He had 23 goals and 17 assists during that season.
It’s hard to tell where Booth will fit in, or how much he will play, but this is a low risk signing being only one-year and $700,000 so the Red Wings have little to lose.
