Report: Josh Anderson Requests Trade, Jarmo Kekalainen Denies It

Josh Anderson

According to SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman, restricted free agent Josh Anderson has requested a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets. This would come as no surprise to anyone following the long, drawn out Anderson situation. However, this seems to be news to general manager Jarmo Kekalainen, who has said they have not received any trade request from Anderson.

For the Blue Jackets and their fans, this situation couldn’t come to an end any sooner. But ending in a trade is something very few want as the end product. It seems that there is only a small amount of money between the Jackets and Anderson between agreeing to a deal, and a move to Europe is also an option now.

General manager Kekalainen was quoted saying, “This trade request is news to me. And we are not looking to trade Josh Anderson.”

With only eight days remaining before the Blue Jackets start the 2017-18 season, the sooner this is resolved, the better it is for all parties. Anderson brings a physicality and also brought a bit of bottom six scoring last season, but this delay in returning is surely going to have a negative effect on his season, much like it had on the Flames Johnny Gaudreau.

Friedman reported that Anderson’s agent Darren Ferris would not comment, but in the past has said that Europe was an option if both sides didn’t come to terms. Ferris stated that he would be sending Anderson to Switzerland to train with a team there. And unless Anderson were to go there and sign a one-year deal, that could make his return from that a bit sticky as well.

Anderson was fourth on the Blue Jackets last season in Individual High Definition Scoring Chances For (iHDCF) last season, with 67. He trailed only Nick Foligno (68), Boone Jenner (78), and Brandon Saad (87) in this category.
