Noah Juulsen Montreal Canadiens Prospects

Montreal Canadiens defensive prospect Noah Juulsen fractured his foot during the team’s first preseason game against the Boston Bruins on September 18th. According to the report, he is expected to be out for at least six weeks.

Noah Juulsen Injured, Out Six Weeks

The Surrey, B.C. native was the 26th pick overall in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He spent the last two seasons on the west coast with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips. Juulsen scored 12 goals and contributed 22 assists in 2016/17 in 49 games for the Silvertips. Juulsen came east last year, appearing in two playoff games with the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps. He also played for Team Canada, winning a silver medal, at the 2017 World Junior Hockey Championships.

Outlook

Juulsen is a strong skater, two-way defender who contributes offensively and is not afraid to play the body. According to LWOH’s own Ben Kerr, Juulsen should be a top-four defenceman for the Laval Rocket this season. He has good offensive skills, hockey sense, and vision. Juulsen is reliable on the blue line and generally plays a conservative stay-at-home game.

He had a good training camp and earned kudos from Montreal head coach Claude Julien. The 20-year-old, right-handed defenseman was unlikely to make the team this year, given the depth on the Canadiens blue line, and the fact that he will be playing his first full season of professional hockey. Once healed, he will likely be sent to Laval to continue to his development. Habs fans hope they see Juulsen sooner rather than later. Some highlights from 2016-2017 are below.
