Boston Bruins Defenceman Torey Krug Out with Fractured Jaw

The Boston Bruins have announced that they will be without one of their top defencemen for the rest of training camp and pre-season. Torey Krug will likely also miss the start of the regular season with a non-displaced fractured jaw. Krug suffered the injury when he was hit in the face with a puck during Tuesday night’s pre-season game against the Detroit Red Wings.  The team announced that Krug will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Krug is a key piece of the Bruins power play and provides offence from the back end. In 322 career games, the 26-year-old has 38 goals and 138 assists for 176 career points. Last season Krug played in 81 games for the Bruins, scoring eight goals and posting 43 assists for 51 points. Krug suffered a lower body injury late in the regular season and missed the Bruins opening round loss to the Ottawa Senators.

In Krug’s absence, the Bruins will once again look to youngster Charlie McAvoy to play a bigger role. He will again be asked to provide some offensive spark from the blue line. The 2016 first round pick was brilliant for Boston in last year’s playoffs; despite playing the first games of his young NHL career.

The team also announced forward Matt Beleskey has been ruled day-to-day with a foot contusion sustained in the team’s September 18th pre-season game in Quebec City, against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Bruins open the NHL regular season on October 5th, with a game against the Nashville Predators.
