Alexander Steen Injury Announced

Alexander Steen

The St. Louis Blues announced today that Alexander Steen injured his left hand during last night’s first pre-season game. He is going to miss the rest of training camp and the first few games of the regular season. He will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Alexander Steen’s Missing Presence

Forward Alexander Steen has been practicing on the first and second lines during training camp and last night’s preseason game. He spent the majority of last season on the second line. When he returns from injury, he will likely spend most of his season playing with with Robby Fabbri and Brayden Schenn. In the meantime, the Blues are going to be looking for a prospect to fill in the extra spot in the lineup. Vladimir Sobotka might get moved up to the second line to fill in for Steen while a prospect gets third or fourth line minutes. The Blues will also miss his leadership and veteran presence, both in the locker room and on the ice.

Steen’s Career To Date

Last season, Steen played in 76 games in the regular season, tallying 16 goals and 35 assists, for 51 points. In the playoffs, Steen played in 10 games, tallying three goals and four assists, for seven points. It is important to note that he played in the last two playoff games with a broken foot. Steen is entering his thirteenth NHL season and his tenth with the Blues. He has played 822 games and tallied 532 career points. He is 33 years old and likely has a few more NHL seasons ahead of him if he can stay healthy.
