Ottawa Senators Forward Clarke MacArthur Fails Physical

Training camps around the NHL are starting this week and one of the storylines coming out of the Senators training camp is the health of forward Clarke MacArthur. MacArthur missed most of last season due to a concussion he suffered in training camp, but then was cleared to play in the playoffs. He played all the way up until they were eliminated and now he failed his physical after he reported to training camp for the Senators.

After coming back from a concussion at the end of last season, MacArthur was also dealing with a neck injury which could also be a reason why he failed his medical. MacArthur will not be cleared to practice or play this season until he passes his physical and there’s a chance he may not be able to play at all this season. MacArthur had a very nice playoff run for the Senators as he had nine points in 19 games and scored the series clinching goal against the Boston Bruins. Three of his nine points were goals as another one of the goals came against the Bruins and then had one of them against the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Final.

Senators defenseman Dion Phaneuf said today that (via Dan Seguin), “I hope he’s okay, he’s been a big part of this team for a lot of years.”

MacArthur has spent 11 seasons in the NHL, four of them with the Ottawa Senators. He’s played 552 games in his NHL career and has 133 goals and 304 points overall. In four seasons with the Senators, he has 40 goals and 91 points. That’s the second most points he’s had on a team behind the 125 he had with the Toronto Maple Leafs for three seasons. He’s also signed through the 2019-2020 season with an AAV of $4.65M per year; though it remains to be seen if he plays out that contract.
