Chiasson was drafted in the second round by the Dallas Stars back in 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He played three years at Boston University, where he began to emerge as a legitimate prospect. In his sophomore year, he had 34 points in 35 games. He followed that up with a 46 point season, being signed to an entry level deal at season’s end. Chiasson made his debut in the NHL at the tail end of the 2011-12 season, scoring five points in nine games.

The following year he primarily played with the Texas Stars of the AHL, where he recorded 35 points in 57 games. In seven games with Dallas, he scored seven points.

Chiasson became a full-time NHLer in 2013-14, playing 79 games with the Dallas Stars. He started to emerge as a legitimate threat, scoring 35 points in his rookie season.

His career in Texas was short-lived, as Chiasson was one of the major pieces heading to Ottawa in the Jason Spezza trade. In Ottawa, Chiasson failed to reach the totals he did in Dallas. He scored 26 points his first year, and just 14 in 2015-16. The Senators traded Chiasson to the Calgary Flames during the summer of 2016, in exchange for defenceman Patrick Sieloff.

In 2016-17, Chiasson scored 12 goals and 24 points in a depth role on the Flames. However, it was not enough for Calgary to tender him a qualifying offer.

Chiasson is still a solid, depth, scoring piece. Although not the potential top six winger he once showed glimpses of, Chiasson can still provide depth scoring. Only 26, he is a minor risk that can easily be placed on waivers if need be.
