Defenseman Mirco Mueller has signed a 2 year, $1.7 million contract with the New Jersey Devils. The contract comes with a $885,000 average annual cap hit, keeping him with the team until 2018-2019. Mueller is a new addition to the Devils team after spending the first four years after his career as part of the San Jose Sharks.

Mirco Mueller Re-Signs With New Jersey Devils
Mirco Mueller is going to be playing the next – years with the New Jersey Devils. He just signed his first deal with the team and will hope the contract comes with more time in the NHL than he got with the Sharks. On June 17th Mueller was sent to the Devils together with a 5th round draft pick in exchange for and 2nd and 4th round pick.
Mueller was drafted 18th overall in 2013 by the Sharks and came in with high hopes for the future of the franchise. After another year in juniors he became a bit of a mainstay with the Sharks in the 2014-15 season playing 39 games. It seemed like Mueller had been rushed to the NHL too early though and after that first season he only played a combined 15 games in the next two seasons as he saw himself being passed on the depth chart. At 22-years=old, Mueller however is still very young and a change in scenery could be just what the young defensemen needs to move forward with his career. A young Devils roster will likely give him a better chance compared to a deep Sharks blueline.
Last Season
Mueller was part of an amusing incident in his last season with the Sharks. On January 11th teammate Paul Martin was set to play against the Calgary Flames when the lineup card was sent in. However, Martin wasn’t able to play after all so Mueller was put in the lineup, despite not being on the lineup card. Mueller ended up playing 1:09 before being ejected from the game in what turned out to be his last appearance with the Sharks.
The Devils also signed forward Joseph Blandisi to a two-year, two-way contact with an AAV of $680,000 at the NHL level. Goaltender Scott Wedgewood inked a one-year, two-way contact with a $650,000 AAV at the NHL level.
