Viktor Arvidsson Re-Signs with the Nashville Predators

The Predators are coming off their recent Stanley Cup run which saw them lose in six games to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals. Arvidsson played a large role early in the Predators run, and continued to contribute throughout. Through 22  playoff games, Arvidsson scored three goals and added 10 assists. His line with Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg was unstoppable in Round 1 against the Chicago Blackhawks. Although he slowed down some in later rounds, Arvidsson’s energy was a major catalyst for his team’s success.

The Nasvhille Predators drafted Viktor Arvidsson in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Arvidsson is small in stature at 5’9”, 180 pounds, which was likely why he was passed over by teams. He also remained undrafted until he turned 21-years old. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in drive, and the Predators have benefited from his ever-running motor. Of players drafted in the fourth round in 2014, Arvidsson has played the most NHL games by far, with 142 regular season and 36 playoff games played. In fact, he has played more games than any player not taken in first round that year.

Through 142 career regular season NHL games, Arvidsson has 39 goals and 77 points. He has four goals and 15 points in 36 career playoff games. This past season was his best to date. Arvidsson saw his numbers increase from 16 points in 56 games in 2015-16 to 61 points in 80 games in 2016-17. Playing on the top line and on the power play certainly helped his numbers, but Arvidsson earned the trust of the Predators coaching staff with consistent effort and performance.

Arvidsson also led the NHL in shorthanded goals this past season with five. At 24 years of age, with three years of NHL experience, Arvidsson will be a mainstay with the Predators for the remainder of this contract.
