The San Jose Sharks announced that they have re-signed 23-year-old center Chris Tierney to a one-year contract. The deal is worth $735,000. It comes after Tierney completed his three year entry-level contract that was worth around $2 Million. The 23-year-old center has played three seasons in the NHL so far, all with San Jose. He has tallied 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points in 202 career games along with 32 penalty minutes.

San Jose Sharks Re-Sign Chris Tierney to One-Year Deal
Tierney also spent some time down in the AHL during his first couple of pro seasons before becoming a regular in San Jose in 2016-17. And during his time in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda, Tierney was more than a point-per-game player as he put up nine goals and 23 assists for 32 points in 31 games with only 10 penalty minutes. The former second round pick, 55th overall in 2012 is growing into a very solid forward for the Sharks. He will likely see some top six minutes this season, now that Patrick Marleau is gone to Toronto and Joe Thornton is nearing retirement.
He initially caught the eye of the Sharks while he was still playing with the London Knights of the OHL. And while in the OHL, Tierney was fantastic. He scored a total of 72 goals and added 119 assists for 191 points in 247 games. Tierney helped the London Knights win back-to-back OHL Championships in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
He’s also had his share of playoff success with the Sharks playing in 30 games scoring five goals and five assists; as well as playing in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2015-16 before ultimately losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 2016-17 the Sharks would once again make the playoffs but would not recapture the success they had the year before. They lost to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round.
