Anaheim Ducks Fill Void With Signing of Dennis Rasmussen

The Anaheim Ducks Have Replaced Nate Thompson with the Signing of Center Dennis Rasmussen to a one-year deal.

After the Anaheim Ducks lost center Nate Thompson to the Ottawa Senators they had to do something quickly, and they did when they signed former Blackhawks center Dennis Rasmussen. It’s a standard one-year contract worth $725,000. Now Rasmussen is coming off his longest season in the NHL, 68 games played, but his lowest in regards to production, only managing four goals and four assists for eight points.

In 2015-16, Rasmussen’s first season in the NHL he played 44 games for Chicago and in doing so put up four goals and five assists for nine points. He also registered four penalty minutes that season. However, down in the AHL, he’s been quite productive. In 98 career AHL games, Rasmussen has tallied 20 goals and 23 assists for 43 points along with 48 penalty minutes.

The 27-year-old undrafted player has also had some success internationally at home in Sweden. In the Swedish Elite League, Rasmussen played a total of 149 games, putting up 85 points in the form 40 goals and 45 assists.

Now to international success, he played for team Sweden in the 2009-10 U20 World Junior Championships earning a Bronze Medal in the process. He earned another Bronze Medal for team Sweden once again but this time during the 2013-14 World Championships.

Now the Ducks have some solid centers already in Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, and Antoine Vermette. However, if Tyler Soy or Sam Steel crack the line-up this season that’s going to leave Rasmussen in the AHL, but he probably won’t be their long as the Ducks will need his size and strength down the middle, especially in a fourth line role which he’s expected to play.

In 68 games last season for Chicago he posted a -2.36 Relative Corsi-For percentage. This was good for 18th on the roster for players who appeared in 41-or-more games.
