Saturday the Anaheim Ducks announced that they signed prospect Alex Dostie to a three-year entry level deal, however, financials have not been released. The 20-year-old center was a fourth-round pick 115th overall by the Ducks in 2016.

The Anaheim Ducks Signed Forward Prospect Alex Dostie to a Three-Year Entry Level Contract on Saturday.
Dostie has spent his QMJHL career with the Gatineau Olympiques and the Charlottetown Islanders. In 233 career games, he has managed 86 goals, and 127 assists for 223 points along with 58 penalty minutes, and a plus 55 rating. Dostie’s best QMJHL season came in 2015-16 when he scored 73 points in 54 games. However he saw a dip on his points per game in 2016-17 when he put up 30 goals and 41 assists for 71 points in 64 games. He also saw a decrease in plus/minus when he only put up a plus 10 rating.
Also in 34 career playoff games in the QMJHL, Dostie has 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points. Dostie isn’t expected to make the Ducks roster next year, but as a 20-year-old he could either play one more season in the QMJHL as an over-ager or opt for the AHL.
The AHL seems like a solid fit for Dostie. Down in San Diego he could easily fill a top nine role down the middle. Due to being 5’10” and 165 pounds, that’s the perfect situation for him. However, if the Ducks feel he can use another year of development in the QMJHL, that is always an option.
The reason Dostie won’t make the NHL roster next season is mostly due to players like Sam Steel and Tyler Soy who will be competing for a role. Those two are closer to being NHL ready, and are coming off huge years in the WHL.
