Coming off of his biggest season yet, winning the Hart Memorial Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, and Art Ross Trophy, McDavid can now claim to be the highest paid player in the National Hockey League. He is the third youngest player to win the Hart trophy.
The Edmonton Oilers will pay him $12.5 million per year for eight years in the 20-year-old’s second contract since his entry level deal. McDavid still has one year left on his entry level contract. The Oilers currently have $17.9 million in cap space. In addition to Connor McDavid, the Oilers will likely pursue new contracts for Ryan Strome and Darnell Nurse soon as they too become restricted free agents next summer.

The Edmonton Oilers still have to sign fellow youngster Leon Draisaitl to a new contract, which could take up a chunk of the Oilers current available space of $17.9 million.
The Richmond Hill, Ontario native scored 30 goals and added 70 assists for a clean 100 points in 82 games. He added nine points in 13 games in the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs, as the Oilers were downed by the Anaheim Ducks. Connor McDavid was selected first overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. In addition to being captain of the Edmonton Oilers, McDavid was also the captain of Team North America in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
