Oscar Lindberg Re-Signs with the Vegas Golden Knights

Oscar Lindberg was exposed by the New York Rangers this off-season, due to the numbers game. He had a stellar performance on the Rangers’ fourth line in their playoff stint. He netted three goals and earned one helper before their second round exit to the Ottawa Senators.

Lindberg had a blazing start to his Rangers career. Lindberg became the first rookie in franchise history to score at least one goal in the season’s first three games, a total of four. His luck cooled after that, ending the 2015-16 season with 28 points in 68 games.

Following a successful bilateral hip labral surgery in the 2016 off-season, Lindberg had a slow start to his sophomore season. However, Rangers fans saw his excellence emerge late in the season, extending past the post-season.

Lindberg moved on to earn the gold medal at the IIHF World Championships, his second career gold with Team Sweden. He played on the top line with the Washington Capitals Nicklas Backstrom and the Toronto Maple Leafs William Nylander. Lindberg has been called a “good luck charm” for his home country’s team. Sweden earned their last two gold medals with Lindberg on the roster. Rangers teammate, Henrik Lundqvist also shared the 2017 Gold Medal with Lindberg. Lundqvist earned 42 saves in regulation and an additional four in the shootout in pursuit of the gold.

Lindberg, drafted 57th overall in 2010 NHL Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes, never played on Arizona ice. Anders Hedberg, a fellow Swede, former Ranger and head European scout for the New York Rangers had eyes on the coveted Swedish prospect. On May 8, 2011, Lindberg was traded to the Rangers in exchange for centerman Ethan Werek. Lindberg spent the next two seasons with the Rangers AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolfpack before officially joining the Rangers’ roster.

Oscar Lindberg was selected by Vegas in the recent Expansion Draft, the member of the New York Rangers sent to Nevada.
