Forward Nick Cousins played the 2016-17 season with the Philadelphia Flyers, scoring 16 points in 60 games. He was acquired along with Merrick Madsen in exchange for Brendan Warren and a 2018 fifth round pick.

Defenceman Andre Benoit played the 2016-17 season with the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL, scoring 24 points in 52 games.
Minnesota

Niklas Svedberg spent the 2016-17 with Salavat Yulaev Ufa, posting a 2.99 GAA and a .897 SV% in the KHL.
New York Islanders

Kane Lafranchise was on an AHL contract in 2016-17 with the Islanders’ AHL affiliate the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The minor league veteran had 21 points in 67 games.
Ottawa

Forward Ben Sexton played with the Albany Devils in 2016-17 on an AHL contract, scoring 31 points in 54 games.
Defenceman Erik Burgdoerfer scored 17 points in 52 games with the Rochester Americans last season. He also played two games with Buffalo.
Forward Max Reinhart played for the Cologne Sharks of the DEL in 2016-17, scoring 23 points in 52 games for the German club.
Goaltender Danny Taylor also played overseas in 2016-17, featuring in goal for Medvescak Zagreb and Sibir Novosibirsk of the KHL. With Zagreb, he had a 2.23 GAA and a .930 SV% in 17 games. With Sibir, Taylor had a 1.75 GAA and a .940 SV% in 29 games.

Defenceman Mat Bodie started 2016-17 with the Hartford Wolf Park, scoring 30 points in 45 games. He was traded to the Sabres in exchange for Daniel Catenacci at the 2017 Trade Deadline. Bodie would finish the year with the Rochester Americans, scoring nine points in 17 games.
