According to a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, and confirmed by Stars beat reporter Mike Heika, the Dallas Stars will sign veteran free agent forward Martin Hanzal when free agency opens later today. The deal has been confirmed, and Hanzal will earn $14.25 million over three years. This deal carries a cap hit of $4.75 million annually. Hanzal, a 30-year old veteran center will now be entering his eleventh season in the NHL, this time in a Dallas sweater.

Report: Martin Hanzal to Sign with the Dallas Stars
Hanzal was traded from the Arizona Coyotes to the Minnesota Wild during the 2017 NHL Trade Deadline. The Wild believed Hanzal to be the final piece to their roster in order for them to make a run for the Stanley Cup, however this was not to be. The Wild would fall to the Blues in the first round of the playoffs.
Prior to the trade, Hanzal was a member of the Coyotes, where he was since his draft in 2005 and debut in 2007. Hanzal was selected 17th overall on 2005 by the then Phoenix Coyotes. He appeared in his first NHL game in 2007, and in his rookie season tallied eight goals and 27 assists. In his career, Hanzal has skated in a total of 628 games, scoring 121 goals and adding 205 assists. He has broken the 30 point mark six times, with his most being 41 (13 goals, 28 assists), during the 2015-16 campaign.
Hanzal has appeared in 28 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. In the playoffs he has scored five goals and has notched eight helpers. In the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Wild, Hanzal played in five games, getting only one point, a goal.
Hanzal is a big body, standing at 6’6″ and weighing in at 226 pounds. He is an aggressive player who has a play-making touch. He can easily serve as a solid third line center. He brings great experience to his new club.
