Veteran free agent defenceman Kyle Quincey has signed a one year deal with the Minnesota Wild with a value of $1.25 million. Quincey is entering his tenth full season in the National Hockey League and this one will begin as a member of the Wild.

Kyle Quincey Signs with the Minnesota Wild
Quincey was drafted into the NHL in 2003 by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round, splitting the bulk of his time between Mississauga and Grand Rapids before being traded the the Los Angeles Kings in 2008-09. That season, he played in 72 regular season NHL games, scoring four times and adding 34 assists for a total of 38 points. Following this one year stint in Los Angeles, Quincey bounced around the league and spent time with the Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils, and, most recently, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
After his promising 38-point rookie season, however, Quincey never quite managed to live up to expectations at any of his clubs, only cracking the 20-point threshold twice more in nearly a decade of professional hockey. Despite sporting solid possession statistics early in his career, the past five years have lowered his overall Corsi for percentage to 50.1%, a drop which has coincided with a lack of both offensive production and time on ice in general.
All told, Quincey has skated in 568 regular season NHL games throughout his long career in the NHL. In that time, he has scored 36 goals and has added 119 assists, adding 520 penalty minutes to boot. In his few playoff appearances, his performance has been less than stellar: zero goals, nine assists, and 40 penalty minutes in 56 games. For the Wild, this signing is nothing more than the addition of another depth defenceman after the loss of Marco Scandella to the Buffalo Sabres. The short term and low cap hit make this a relatively low-risk signing, and Quincey will certainly look to impress his new club after failing to do so last season in Columbus.
