Dominic Moore Signs with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Moore was drafted way back in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. The veteran centre has played for 10 teams over a 12-year career.

After three seasons in the Big Apple, Moore signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Boston Bruins last summer. As a fourth liner, Moore played 82 games, scoring 11 goals and 25 points.

The Leafs’ fourth line centre at the end of the 2015-16 season, Brian Boyle, priced the Leafs out. Boyle received a two-year, $5.6 million contract from the New Jersey Devils, too much for the Leafs to commit to their fourth line. In Dominic Moore, the Leafs are getting a very good value player.

In Dominic Moore, the Leafs are getting a very good value player. At $1 million, there is very little risk involved. Over the past four seasons, Moore has been fairly consistent, scoring around 20 points a year. He bounced back from a down, 15 point campaign in 2015-16 with a 25 point year with the Bruins. As of now, Moore is pencilled into centre Matt Martin and Kasperi Kapanen on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ fourth line.

This is Moore’s second stint in Toronto. He first joined the Leafs during the 2007-08 season, when he was claimed off of waivers. In 38 games, the native of Thornhill, Ontario scored 14 points. The following year was the best of his career, scoring 41 points in 63 games with the Maple Leafs. Toronto cashed in on his excellent season by trading him to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a second round pick.

Toronto finds an inexpensive fix at fourth line centre in Dominic Moore. Rather than shell out a decent amount to bring back Brian Boyle, they find a player that comes more than 50% cheaper.
