The Florida Panthers have re-signed impending restricted free agent defenceman Alex Petrovic to a one-year contract worth $1.85 million. Bob McKenzie of TSN was first with the news on twitter, with Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports getting the contract amount.

Alex Petrovic Re-Signs with the Florida Panthers
The 25-year-old defenceman had one goal and 14 points in 49 games for the Panthers last season. He has played parts of five seasons in the NHL, all with the Florida Panthers. Petrovic has scored three goals and added 32 assists for 35 points in 161 career games. He has also added 236 career penalty minutes. Petrovic has played in six Stanley Cup Playoff games, accumulating one goal and three assists for four points.
Petrovic, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, was drafted by the Panthers in the second round, 36th overall at the 2010 NHL Draft. He played his junior hockey with the Red Deer Rebels and has spent parts of four seasons with Florida’s former AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
At 6’4″, Alex Petrovic is a physical presence on the Panthers blue line. He has mostly played in the Panthers bottom pair to this point in his career, but the Panthers hope that he may be able to move up in the lineup as he continues to gain pro experience.
