Patrik Berglund will be sidelined until December of this year after undergoing successful surgery on his left shoulder yesterday. The surgery was to repair a dislocated left shoulder that he got while training in Sweden.

Patrik Berglund Sidelined Until December After Surgery

Losing Berglund for the first few months of the season is bad news for the Blues as he’s one of their best forwards. He’s their second line center so taking him out of the lineup for a few months is a big blow to their center depth.

Last year, Berglund set a new career high in goals with 23 and finished with 34 points in 82 games. His 34 points are the most points he’s had in a season since he had 38 during the 2011-2012 season. He’s scored ten or more goals in every season he’s been in the league with the Blues.

His playoff numbers have looked pretty good too even though he didn’t have a goal during this run. When the Blues got to the Western Conference Final during the 2015-2016 season, he had four goals and nine points in 20 playoff games. His possession numbers have always been good as they’ve been over 50% for most of his career. This year he was 51.2%.

This is the second time in three years that Berglund has suffered a left shoulder surgery during off-season training according to Mike Halford of Pro Hockey Talk:

Berglund has played a total of 637 regular season games in the NHL and has 151 goals and 145 assists to accumulate to 296 points. It’ll be interesting to see how effective Berglund is when he comes back from this injury in December.
