The Blue Jackets recently acquired Schroeder from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Blue Jackets prospect Dante Salituro. While Schroeder hasn’t lived up to the expectations that followed him from being a first round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, 22nd overall, he still has time to improve on the performances to this point.

Schroeder has played in 144 games in the NHL to this point in his career, scoring 17 goals and adding 23 assists to his total. This lack of production has seen Schroeder split his time between the NHL and the AHL, with the AHL-affiliate of Minnesota, the Iowa Wild. During his time in the AHL he has played in 292 games, scoring 77 goals and adding 117 assists.

With the first year of the contract being a two-way deal, this shows that Schroeder has to prove himself in training camp to play for the Blue Jackets. With competition coming for the fourth line center spot with the likes of Tyler Motte, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and possible other wild cards, Schroeder will more than likely be spending the majority of the 2017-18 season in the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters.

Schroeder’s best season in the NHL, in regards to point production, came last season with Minnesota. He scored a career high six goals and had a career high seven assists as well. However, Schroeder did carry a -8.66 Relative Corsi-For percentage last season, a number that only topped five players, and only two of those five played in more than half of the games for the Wild, Chris Stewart (-13.94 Rel.CF%) and Tyler Graovac (-14.73).
