The United States 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase roster was announced on Tuesday. The tournament starts July 29, and continues until August 5. It’s being held by the United States, in Plymouth, Michigan.
U.S. Announces Roster for 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase
Besides the U.S., Canada, Sweden, and Finland all participate in the tourney. It gives all four countries a chance to narrow down their roster for upcoming IIHF World Juniors Championship, which starts in December. General manager of the 2018 team, Jim Johannson, said “This event is the first step in our process towards identifying a team for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo.” He also expressed the team’s excitement for hosting the tournament.
America’s roster includes seven players who won a gold medal with the U.S. during the 2017 IIHF World Juniors Championship. Amongst those returnees are Jake Oettinger, Adam Fox, and Kieffer Bellows. The roster, which consist of 42 players right now, will be split into U.S.A. White and U.S.A. Blue to start the tournament. Each team will play two games, then the teams will combine for three final games.
Coming in as Guest Coaches are Dan Muse and Toby Peterson. Muse, who currently coaches the Chicago Steel of the USHL, has also worked as a video coach for the U.S. World Junior team. Peterson is an alum of the U.S. program who went on to play 13 years in the AHL and NHL.
