Anaheim Ducks Cam Fowler Out 2-6 Weeks

Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray announced that defenseman Cam Fowler will miss the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a knee injury.

Fowler suffered the injury on Tuesday night against the Calgary Flames. He needed to be helped off the ice after a knee-on-knee collision with Flames captain Mark Giordano at 6:09 in the third period.

Although the injury is not as severe as many first thought, the Ducks will miss their top defenseman. Cam Fowler leads all Anaheim defensemen in ice time and plays a significant role on the club’s special teams units.

Murray said that Fowler didn’t tear any ligaments in the injury, but has “something like” a sprain. The 25-year old has dealt with knee problems before. He stopped wearing braces on both his knees with the GM’s permission.

However, Giordano was not penalized on the play and the league has decided not to apply any additional discipline. Murray was perplexed by the decision.

After the game Giordano said, ” I think our legs collided. I hope he’s OK. You don’t like to see guys get hurt. There was no intent to hurt him there.”

Cam Fowler had 11 goals and 28 assists (39 points), one point away from his career high of 40, which he reached in his rookie season.

Anaheim defeated the Calgary Flames 3-1 on Tuesday night and shutout the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 on Thursday night. They lead the Pacific Division with 103 points.
