Jarome Iginla Traded to Los Angeles Kings

The Colorado Avalanche have honored the request of veteran Jarome Iginla to be moved to a playoff team. The deal sees Iginla head to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

Rumors have surrounded Iginla since he announced his desire to be traded early in February.

”I would like to, at the deadline, go somewhere. I would like to be in the playoffs. I would hope that there is some opportunity to go and play in the playoffs. Those are the best games, the most fun for sure, and you have a chance to win. So, no, I haven’t given up on that chance to win.”

Iginla is in the third and final year for a contract that comes with a cap hit of $5.3 million per season.

The 39-year old Edmonton native has had a less than stellar stint in during his time with the Avalanche. The team has failed to make the playoffs during his tenure and Iginla’s production has dropped from 30 goals and 61 points in 2013-14 to eight goals and 18 points in 61 games with the Avalanche this season as part of the overall dreadful year they have going.

It’s expected that Iginla will fit into a scoring role with his new club and provide the team with veteran leadership and scoring touch on the powerplay. While Iginla is not the dominating force that he once was, he has the ability to make an impact with his new club on and off the ice down the stretch and heading into the playoffs.
