The St. Louis Blues have lost one of their key players to injury. Robby Fabbri tore his ACL after taking a hard hit into the boards during the first period of Friday’s game. He only tallied two minutes of ice time before leaving the game, and didn’t have any statistical input in those two minutes.
Fabbri is currently ranked sixth on the team in points, netting 29 on the season in 51 games. His contribution to the team has gone farther than the scoreboard. He has bounced back from the first line to the third line all season, doing best when playing alongside Vladimir Tarasenko and Jori Lehtera.
Fabbri has really come into his own this season. He has shown a lot more aggression, which is why he has averaged just about two more minutes of ice time this season versus last. For a player that’s only 5’10”, it’s surprising to see him being as gritty as he has been. With a team that’s been as soft as the Blues have been lately, it’s good to see young players adjusting their game like Fabbri has. This is why he has become such a key player within the team.
The player filling his spot will most likely be Dmitrij Jaskin, who has been longing for a solidified roster spot. This is assuming the Blues don’t recall a player like Wade Megan or Kenneth Agostino, two players in their AHL who have earned NHL ice time. The two are amongst the top five in the AHL in points, and Wade Megan made his NHL debut earlier this season. Jaskin will most likely be given a few games to show his worth, and if he’s unable to then an AHL player will get a chance.
