There were quite a few minor trades in the NHL today. Let’s break it down.
Edmonton Oilers and Arizona Coyotes
The Edmonton Oilers have acquired centre Henrik Samuelsson from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for winger Mitch Moroz.
Samuelsson has two goals and one assist in 20 games with the AHL’s Tuscon Roadrunners this season. Samuelsson is the son of former NHLer Ulf Samuelsson. He was selected 27th overall by the Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Draft.
The 22-year-old spent three junior seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL, where he won the Memorial Cup in 2014. He scored 95 regular season points and 23 post-season points for the Oil Kings that season. Samuelsson has scored 55 points (23 goals, 32 assists) in 131 career AHL games.
The Oilers chose Mitch Moroz in the second-round of the 2012 draft. He has three points in 17 games with the Bakersfield Condors this season.
Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes
Admist the Dallas Stars goaltending struggles this season, they have acquired veteran goaltender Justin Peters from the Arizona Coyotes.
Kari Lehtonen, who has 29 starts, and Antti Niemi who has 22, have been sharing the starting job for the second straight season.
Peters has played 12 games with the Tuscon Roadrunners and three with the Arizona Coyotes this season. He posts a .868 save percentage in the AHL and a .900 in the NHL.
Peters has spent most of the season with Tucson, but the 30-year-old has 83 career NHL appearances with Carolina, Washington and Arizona in the NHL.
Also, the Stars added minor league defenseman Justin Hache in the deal. Hache has played 21 games with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush, recording two goals and seven assists.
Arizona acquired young forwards Brendan Ranford and Branden Troock. Ranford has six goals and 11 assists this season with the Texas Stars. While Trook has seven goals and two assists in 15 games with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.
Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild
The Ottawa Senators acquired Marc Hagel from the Minnesota Wild for future considerations.
Hagel will be assigned to the Binghamton Senators. He is expected to be in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Hershey Bears. Hagel has seven points in 26 games with the Iowa Wild this season.
He has 93 points in 219 career AHL games.
