It is not known when Hayes’ injured definitely occurred but it has been diagnosed as lower-body. Monday morning, Hayes underwent an MRI back in New York, revealing his injury and a timetable for return.

Kevin Hayes to Miss 2-3 Weeks with Injury

Hayes, who is now in his third pro year in the National Hockey League, has been spectacular for the Rangers this season. He has scored 13 goals and has added 22 assists for a total of 35 points in 47 games played. He has become a top six player for the team, who has been known for their explosive offensive play this season. He has gelled well with fellow forwards Derek Stepan and Chris Kreider and has filled in nicely for Mika Zibanejad, who missed significant time earlier this season with a leg injury. In his NHL, career, spent entirely with the Rangers thus far, Hayes has skated in a total of 205 games with 44 goals scored and 72 assists for 116 total points. With his timetable for return being two-to-three weeks, expect Hayes to return around the second week of February. Filling in for the injured Hayes is Matt Puempel, who has jumped in and out of the lineup multiple times this season.
